The truck driver who admitted falling asleep at the wheel last Thursday morning before slamming into a car in a Baldwin County intersection will now face charges.

Rashad Leshore, 24, of Lithonia, is charged with 2nd-degree homicide by vehicle in connection with the crash that killed 24-year-old Maggie Bryson.

Leshore also faces charges of failure to obey a traffic control device, following too closely, and fatigued driving.

Sgt. Kevin Pope, Commander of the Georgia State Patrol Post in Milledgeville, confirmed this in a phone interview with Lake Country Today.

All four charges are misdemeanors, not felonies. Each can carry the possibility of up to a year in jail.

Investigators determined Leshore was not over the 14-hour federal limit for commercial drivers at the time of the crash. However, they say he would’ve been once he reached his destination in Atlanta.

Because he admitted to falling asleep, the “fatigued driving” charge will remain.
