A man approached a crowd and started shooting at people late Friday night in Milledgeville.

According to the Milledgeville Police Department Facebook page, officers responded to multiple 911 calls about shots fired around 9 p.m.

When they arrived in the 400 block of Earnest Byner Street, officers found multiple witnesses who said a man came up to them and started shooting.

One of the victims shot back in self-defense. While returning fire, the victim was shot at by several more people.

Detectives were sent to the scene to process it. The investigation led to the arrest of one of the shooters, 18-year-old Travion Butts.

Butts was arrested and charged with six counts of aggravated assault and one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. 

This is an active and ongoing investigation, and further charges may be taken.
