A Anita White Carson Middle School student was removed from campus by police for allegedly bringing a handgun onto school premises on Monday.

It was reported to school administration that a student might have a gun. The school administration began an immediate investigation, according to a press release from the Greene County School System.

CMS school administrators and the School Resource Officer questioned the student, and a weapon was found in the course of the investigation. The school was locked down for about 30 minutes while the school’s threat assessment team searched to make sure the school campus was safe to resume normal operations.

Superintendent Dr. Chris Houston praised the school’s response.

“We encourage all parents, students, and staff to alert authorities should they see or hear anything suspicious,” Houston said. “Parents, please continue to encourage your child to let a teacher or administrator know if a situation exists which could ever place them and others in danger.”
