A South Carolina truck driver is dead after investigators believe he was shot during a road rage incident on I-20 in Greene County.

The tractor-trailer crash happened Friday morning around 6:45. The tractor-trailer went from the I-20 westbound lanes, across the median, across I-20 eastbound and into the woods near mile marker 132. That is where the Veazey Road bridge is.

When Greene County Sheriff’s deputies arrived, they found Joseph Lee Briggs Jr. dead. He had been shot multiple times.

He was 30 and from Manning, South Carolina.

The GBI has taken over the investigation and believes the shooting and crash is a road rage incident.

GBI Special Agent in Charge Mary Chandler says investigators believe as Briggs Jr. moved from the fast lane to the slow lane and he came too close to a car. Someone in that car opened fire.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Greene County Sheriff’s Office at 706-453-3551 or the GBI Region 6 office in Milledgeville at 478-445-4173.

  1. So sad and I pray God will reveal who that person were that pull that trigger on that young Man. You nobody deserves to be killed….

  2. Update on this… I passed by the scene at 3:45 p.m and the truck was there and officers were on the scene. Please don’t tell me they were just finding his body more than 8 hours after he was shot. Prayers for his family.
